Man sentenced in identity theft

Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto said today that 44-year-old Terry Parris of Las Vegas was sentenced by District Judge Jackie Glass to four years in prison in connection with an identity theft case.
Parris had previously entered a guilty plea to a felony charge of fraud in connection with applying for a license or identification card.
The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles investigated and found that Parris had previously obtained a Nevada driver's license in the name Jose Sosa. The victim contacted the department, which cancelled the license in April 2008.
Parris was arrested after he contacted the Department of Motor Vehicles for more information. He told investigators that he purchased the false identity about 15 years ago and had been using the name of Jose Sosa ever since to conceal previous felony convictions Parris had in California.
Parris was taken into custody following the sentencing hearing. He will be eligible for release on parole after a minimum of 16 months in prison.
