Las Vegas-based Ultimate Fighting Championship will resume airing to a Japanese market after signing a two-year deal with the broadcast group WOWOW on Monday, the UFC said.
Starting with UFC 89 between Michael Bisping and Chris Leben this Saturday in Birmingham, England, WOWOW will resume telecasting all UFC pay-per-view events in Japan. The network broadcast more than 50 UFC programs from 2001 to 2007.
"WOWOW is extremely pleased to announce that UFC is back on WOWOW, starting with the UFC 89 event," said Kazuyuki Omura, chief producer of WOWOW, in a UFC news release. "We are excited to once again provide our subscribers with the most prominent mixed martial arts program in the world."
The UFC is in its 15th year and has expanded in recent years to the United Kingdom and Europe.
