LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

McCain, on campaign trail, finds conscience

Monday, Oct. 13, 2008 | 2:06 a.m.

Who is the real John McCain? We might have just gotten a glimpse of him Friday on the campaign trail when he seemed to experience a Lee Atwater epiphany moment.

McCain has been called “erratic” over the past few weeks, and for good reason. The inner conflict of his core values of decency and the venom his advisers and running mate have been spewing have affected his ability to read his own compass. Pallin’ around with Palin got him off course. The hatemongers in his audience may have helped him find his “North Star.” We’ll see.

But good for John McCain that he came to grips with his conscience and admitted that Barack Obama is a decent man, that Barack Obama is not a person who should be feared as president of the United States of America.

Let’s now get down to business and discuss the issues!
