Cool temperatures, windy conditions persist

Northerly winds are expected to keep chilly air flowing through the Las Vegas Valley today, so keep sweaters and jackets on hand, the National Weather service said.
The high of 62 degrees on Saturday set a new record for the lowest high temperature. The previous record was 65 degrees set on Oct. 11, 1997. The 60-degree mark on Sunday shattered the record of 62 degrees set on Oct. 12, 1947.
Those temperatures haven't been seen in Las Vegas since a 60-degree reading on March 5, the weather service said.
Today's high is expected to hit 66 degrees with clear skies, but 25 to 35 mph winds with gusts to 45 mph could make it feel much cooler. Windy conditions along the Lower Colorado River Valley leading into Lake Mead are expected to produce white caps on both lakes Mead and Mohave, the weather service said.
After today, the winds will calm down and a warming trend will begin, which should put temperatures back into the 80s Thursday and Friday. Forecasters are watching another cooling trend for next weekend, but it's not expected to be as cold as this Columbus Day weekend.
