Apartment fire does $150,000 in damage near UNLV
Monday, Oct. 13, 2008 | 5:06 p.m.
Fire investigators are trying to find the cause of flames that engulfed two apartments near UNLV at about 2:22 p.m. today just east of Maryland Parkway.
The Golden Pond University Apartments, located at 1450 E. Harmon Ave., were evacuated as firefighters fought flames in an upstairs and downstairs apartment at the two-story complex, said Scott Allison, spokesman for the Clark County Fire Department.
With 30 firefighters at the scene, they extinguished the flames in about 20 minutes, Allison said.
One person was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene, Allison said. There were no other injuries.
Investigators believe the fire started in the bottom apartment and spread to the second-story unit.
In addition to the two apartments damaged by flames and smoke, six others have smoke and water damage, with estimated damage at $150,000, Allison said.
