LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Vegas is perfect spot for film’s premiere

Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008 | 2:02 a.m.

You could have knocked me over with a feather.

When I read Brendan Buhler’s Thursday article in the Las Vegas Sun that the world premiere of a significant film will be screened on East Flamingo, I had to catch my breath.

Legendary and controversial Ted V. Mikels — writer, director, cinematographer in the film business for 60 years — has decided to have a pre-release screening of “Demon Haunt” at the Clark County Public Library.

Move over, Cannes. Step aside, Sundance. Hang your head, Hollywood Boulevard. Be humble, Broadway. The new In Spot is Maryland Parkway. And the central hangout of Las Vegas’ cognoscenti is ... the libary!

This campy, unrepentant creator of celluloid sure seems to think so.

I won’t expect to see any limos. TV cameras will not be there. There will be no bleachers for gawking at starlets. And no “ooohs and aaahs” in the air. There won’t be any glitterati or paparazzi.

Yet, I am sure there will be some pretty cool people there who live in a city that — after having been here for 10 years — I tend to appreciate more and more. Where would be a better place to unveil “Demon Haunt?”

In truth, this is the first premiere I’ve ever really wanted to go to.
