Atlantic City to have 7-day smoking ban

Atlantic City casinos will go smoke-free for seven days before allowing gamblers to light up again.
City Council President William Marsh told The Associated Press that the unusual arrangement is necessary because the city can't legally stop a previously approved smoking ban from taking effect on Wednesday.
Earlier this week, the council gave preliminary approval to delaying the smoking ban for one year due to the economic crisis and fear of massive casino losses and layoffs.
But it still needs a final vote on Oct. 22, and the ban is set to take effect a week before that.
Four casinos owned by Harrah's Entertainment say they will go smoke-free on the gambling floor anyway on Wednesday, and stay that way, offering patrons ventilated smoking lounges.

funny how Harrah's Entertainment can oblige non-smokers there but not in vegas
When are the cops going to start enforcing our smoking ban? We who don't smoke are in the majority and the law has been passed. I'm sick of bars and convenience stores thumbing their noses at the law because a judge made a bad ruling. Please, let's get the police involved like they are in Reno, and stop these people from slowly poisoning us.
Furthermore, overweight patrons should not be allowed in casinos! We need a constitutional admendment petetion started now! The police have such little to do - time to get them working for our tax dollars. Like in Reno. In fact, maybe gambling should be outlawed or at least restricted to a few hours a day? That would stop all the overweight smokers coming into our state to poison us.
