Boutique, show to benefit groups

Sun City MacDonald Ranch will host the Sew Much Comfort arts and crafts boutique, pancake breakfast and variety show from 6:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Oct. 11.

Items for sale will include oil paintings, water color and acrylic paintings, jewelry, quilts and ceramics.

The variety show will begin at 2 p.m.

Portions of the day's proceeds will benefit Safe Nest, Safe House, the Salvation Army, Sew Much Comfort and Robert Taylor Elementary School.

Summit to address issue of wild horses

The International Society for the Protection of Wild Horses and Burros and Horses 4 Ever will host a conference to address issues regarding Nevada's wild horses.

The conference will include experts in equine, range science and range management, representatives of the Bureau of Land Management and wild horse advocate organizations.

The goal of the conference is to seek viable solutions to the wild horse crisis.

The conference will take place from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Oct. 11 and 12 at the South Point Hotel and Casino, 9777 Las Vegas Blvd. South. The cost is $25 and covers both days.

Club to hear master gardener's advice

The Sunset Garden Club will meet at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 14 at the Paseo Verde Library, 280 S. Green Valley Parkway.

Jean Engelmann, master gardener, will cover horticulture, design and how to grow foliage. The meeting is free and open to the public.

Workshop to address volunteerism

UNLV political science instructor Martin Dupalo will give a workshop on volunteerism at 6 p.m. Oct. 10 at the Black Mountain Recreation Center, 599 Greenway Road at Horizon Drive.

A recipient of the Humanitarian of the Year award by In Business Las Vegas, a sister publication of the Home News, Dupalo has organized public service projects involving food recovery and collecting medical supplies for U.S. troops in Iraq to provide to civilians.

The workshop will look at opportunities to get involved in the Southern Nevada community.

The cost is $5.

RTC officials to speak at chamber luncheon

Tracy Bauer and Tom Spanky of the Regional Transportation Commission will discuss transportation at the Henderson Chamber of Commerce network luncheon at noon Oct. 16 at the Terrace, 1361 W. Warm Springs Road in Henderson.

Reservations must be made by 4 p.m. Oct. 14. The cost is $30.
