Letter to the editor:
Good Samaritans walk among us
Thursday, Oct. 9, 2008 | 2:01 a.m.
There are two angels of mercy living here in Las Vegas. I know, because I actually met them, but I didn’t even think to ask their names.
On Monday, about 1 p.m., I was rolling down the sidewalk, going north on the east side of Decatur Boulevard in my electric wheelchair, and attempted to cross Obannon Drive.
As I came down the sidewalk at the curb, my front wheels struck a patch of raised blacktop and I was thrown forward out of my chair and into the street. Unable to get up by myself, I lay there stunned and staring at the sky for a few seconds, then frantically tried to move back toward the curb as best I could, but had no success.
Seeing I needed help, a woman from one vehicle and a man from another got out and came to my rescue. They each grabbed an arm and lifted me back into my wheelchair, making sure I was all right. Before going back to their vehicles, they also made sure I was able to get my wheelchair over the raised section of blacktop and cross Obannon Drive.
To those angels of mercy, you have no idea how scared I was, lying in the middle of the street. I thank you both from the bottom of my heart, and I am so sorry I didn’t even think to ask your names. God love you both. I will never forget you.
