flashpoint:
An epidemic of illiteracy
Thursday, Oct. 9, 2008 | 2 a.m.
Is it me or does there seem to be an epidemic of illiteracy and/or carelessness in campaign materials this cycle? Candidates who don’t know the basic rules of grammar or spelling are legion. The latest is Tim Williams, a Republican challenging Assemblyman Mark Manendo. Williams sent out a solicitation to lobbyists explaining how they could hide their contributions by giving him $100 or less. In the same e-mail in which Williams tells folks “politics is not a game with me and I have taken it very seriously,” he writes: “Tim is running against an incumbant. Several people are concenred if they donate money then the incumbant and his party will remember who helped when the financial reports are filed.” Yes, he takes it very seriously.
