Chamber to host business showcase

The Henderson Chamber of Commerce will host the annual business showcase and mixer 4-7 p.m. Oct. 23 at Loews lake Las Vegas Resort, 101 Montelago Blvd.

The showcase will highlight the products and services of almost 40 local businesses. Participation is limited to Henderson Chamber of Commerce member businesses. Admission to the showcase and mixer is free.

Books donated to help at-risk youth

Tom and Jill Emanuel, owners of PostNet at 209 S. Stephanie St., have collected nearly 200 books for Spread the Word Nevada Kids to Kids Program.

The new and gently used books will go directly to at-risk students in the Las Vegas Valley, in pre-school through eight grade.

The store will continue to accept donations through Dec. 31. Books for high school age students will also be accepted.

St. Rose Dominican receives award

St. Rose Dominican Hospital's Palliative Care program has received the 2009 National Consensus Project Quality in Palliative Care Award. St. Rose was one of only nine hospitals to receive the award this year.

Palliative care refers to a multi-disciplinary approach improving the quality of life for patients with chronic condition and life-threatening illnesses and their families. The programs guide patients and families through the decision-making processes and includes end-of-life care.

The National Consensus Project Quality Care Award is presented annually to top organizations that have implemented palliative care principles supported by the project.

Business launches new product

Imagine Marketing, a marketing and public relations firm, has launched a new video production product called Imagine Shorts.

Imagine Shorts are highly targeted 30- to 45-second branded entertainment videos designed to capture audience attention. The company says the product has the ability to capture the viral video wave that has become essential to marketing in the past few years.

Developer building apartment complex

Fore Property Company has begun construction of a 310-unit Class-A apartment community on the corner of American Pacific Drive and Quest Park Street.

The development will consist of three-story garden-style apartments with one- to three-bedrooms and two-story lofts. Apartments will range from 739 to 1,258 square feet.

The community will also feature a 5,500-square-foot clubhouse with a health club, media room, business center and swimming pool.

Fore expects to begin leasing in September 2009.

Sunset & Vines wins recognition

Sunset & Vines in the MonteLago Village Resort at Lake Las Vegas and Todd's Unique Dining in Green Valley have been recognized by Wine Spectator Magazine with an Award of Excellence.

Both received the magazine's basic award, which notes restaurants that "offer a well-chosen selection of quality producers along with a thematic match to the menu in both price and style."

Chamber adds to board of directors

The Henderson Chamber of Commerce has elected its officers the 2008-09.

The new position of president-elect was recently created, and Kirk Clausen was chosen to serve the remainder of the year in the spot. Glynda Rhodes has been named as first vice president.

David Dahan remains as president, and Rick Smith remains as treasurer.

D.J. Allen, founder and president of Imagine Marketing, was elected to the board.

Guest services launched at District

The District at Green Valley Ranch has opened the District Store and Guest Services, designed to serve multiple functions for guests.

Guests will be able to get information regarding stores, restaurants, sales and upcoming events. It will also provide shopping bags and guests will be able to book parties at The Carousel. As a retail location, it will carry District-branded items as well as gift cards and event and show tickets.

Guest services will be open Monday-Friday 11 a.m.-9 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m.-9 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m.-7 p.m.
