Kennel Clubs to host dog show, trials
The Black Mountain Kennel Club and the Pahrump Valley Obedience Club will host obedience trials and an all-breed showcase Oct. 10, 11 and 12 at Veterans Memorial Park, 1900 Buchanan Blvd., Boulder City.
Obedience and rally trials will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 10 and 11 and 8 a.m. on Oct. 12. The breeders showcase will begin at 3 p.m. on Oct. 10 and is limited to show dogs.

Elks collecting goods for troops overseas
The Boulder City Elks Lodge 1682 is asking for donations of items to be shipped to troops serving Iraq and Afghanistan.
Items such as shaving cream, beef jerky, playing cards and individually wrapped hard candies can be dropped off between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Oct. 11 at the Elks Lodge, 1217 Nevada Highway. Cash donations will also be accepted to help cover the cost of mailing the packages.

Elementary schools to hold yard sale
Andrew Mitchell and Martha P. King elementary schools will hold a yard sale 7 a.m.-11 a.m. Oct. 11 in the parking lot at Mitchell, 900 Avenue B.
Items for sale will include toys, books, clothes, movies, artwork and bikes. Doughnuts and coffee will also be available for sale. The proceeds from the garage sale will benefit the two schools.

Darlene and Vernon Burk to be honored
Boulder City Friends of the Arts will honor Darlene and Vernon Burk at 6 p.m. Oct. 16 at the Boulder Dam Hotel.
The Burks will be presented with the Alice Isenberg Arts Advocacy Award. The award is in honor of their support of the arts in Southern Nevada.

Bluegrass concert planned at library
The Marty Warburton Bluegrass Band will perform a free concert, 7 p.m. Oct. 18 at the Boulder City Library Amphitheater, 701 Adams Blvd.
Boulder City resident George Rhee will open for the group with a guitar performance.
Concert-goers are encouraged to bring a picnic and blankets or chairs.
The concert is part of a series of free concerts presented by the city of Boulder City, El Dorado Energy and the Friends of the Arts.

RSVP soon for 31ers reunion Oct. 18
The 53rd annual 31ers reunion will take place Oct. 18 at the College of Southern Nevada, 700 Wyoming St.
This year's reunion will focus on preserving the stories of the original 31ers through educational outreach in schools and the community. The hospitality area will open at 10 a.m. and the luncheon will begin at noon. Presentations will begin at 1 p.m.
Reservations must be received by Oct. 13. Cost is $20.

Potluck will celebrate adoption, families
The Nevada International Adoption Yahoo! Group will celebrate National Adoption Month with a potluck picnic 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Nov. 8 at Veterans Memorial Park, 1650 Buchanan Blvd.
The potluck is open to all adoptive families, waiting families, adoption professionals and families considering adoption.
The event will include food, games, sports and stories.
