Virginia fugitive wanted for sexual assault arrested in Las Vegas

A Virginia man, 46-year-old Kent Arthur Powell, wanted for sexual assault of a child was arrested late Monday in North Las Vegas.

U.S. Marshals led Nevada Fugitive Investigative Strike Team members in making the arrest of Powell, who has been charged by the Newport News Police Department with four counts of aggravated sexual battery, four counts of indecent liberties on a child, two counts of forcible sodomy and two counts of indecent exposure.

It is alleged that the victim was an 8-year-old girl, the U.S. Marshals office said.

Deputy U.S. Marshals in Virginia developed information that Powell had fled to the Las Vegas area.

The Nevada FIST team tracked Powell to a house near Civic Center Drive and Cheyenne Avenue where he was staying with a friend.

Within 10 hours of receiving the lead and investigating, marshals arrested Powell within incident,

Powell was taken to the Clark County Detention Center where he awaits extradition.

The Nevada FIST is a task force led by federal marshals, members of the Metro Police Department, the Nevada Department of Public Safety, the City of Las Vegas Department of Detention and Enforcement, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Nevada Department of Corrections.
