Letter to the editor:

If bar low enough, Palin won debate

Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008 | 2:03 a.m.

Debate (noun): A formal contest of argumentation in which two opposing teams defend and attack a given proposition. Debate (verb): To engage in argument by discussing opposing points.

Given these definitions, one must seriously question whether what was billed as debate between the Democratic and Republican vice presidential nominees was anything more than a media interview.

While the more experienced Sen. Joe Biden was able to cite facts and voting records, Gov. Sarah Palin, well rehearsed in Republican talking points, provided no evidence to support her views.

Biden, for the most part, provided direct answers to the questions posed, while Palin stuck with generalities, offering not a single shred of evidence or fact to support her positions.

McCain-Palin supporters are calling this “event” a victory for their ticket. Why? Because she didn’t stumble or ramble as she did in interviews?

If mediocrity equals victory and barely crossing the lowest threshold of expectation is akin to triumph, it’s no wonder we find ourselves in such dire straits.
