Fires planned for wood burning in Spring Mountains

U.S. Forest Service fire crews plan to burn piles of wood in the Spring Mountains to reduce hazardous dead wood.
Fire crews have been monitoring weather conditions each day since the first week of September to identify dates suitable for safe and effective burning in Mountain Springs, Deer Creek Highway and Lee Canyon.
About 210 tons of wood will be burned in the Mountain Springs area, likely before the end of the year, the Forest Service said.
About 1,000 tons of wood will be burned in Lee Canyon and Deer Creek combined, probably early next year.
Residents and visitors can expect to see smoke when the burns occur, but air quality levels will meet all state and federal regulations, the Forest Service said.
Any burning activity will be completed during weather conditions that will minimize the effect of smoke on residents who live in the mountains.
