Cox Communications officials and local dignitaries celebrated the grand opening of the company's new payment center Oct. 6.
The 4,900-square feet facility at 460 Stephanie St. replaced the Water Street office, which closed Sept. 6.
The new building is staffed by 12 employees as opposed to the former location's four, retail sales and service manager Gena Viesca said.
"We have tripled our capacity to assist customers," she said. "Customers don't wait."
Senior Vice President Leo Brennan said the Water Street office opened in 1983 and lacked the space to handle a growing customer base. Lines often formed outside, he said.
The former bank at the corner of Stephanie and Warm Springs Road provided an ideal location for a larger facility, Cox officials said.
It includes nine walk-up customer service windows, two drive-through lanes and a product display area, where patrons can sample three levels of Internet access, digital and high-definition cable and digital telephone.
"It gives customers a chance to touch and feel the product," Paul Warrick, director of customer care, said.
Warrick hoped the new facility would also relieve congestion at Cox's Rancho Drive location in Las Vegas.
"We're committed even in these trying economic times to expand services and support to our Henderson customers," he said.
Taiwan Davis, 34, said she liked the new location, which is closer to her home.
"It's more organized," she said. "The lines don't seem to be as long."
