LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Palin can’t skate by on just her personality

Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008 | 2:06 a.m.

Democratic vice presidential nominee Joe Biden had to show restraint Thursday evening in debating Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin so as not to bully her or overwhelm her, or so the pundits warned.

Biden spoke from the experiential knowledge he has of the national economy and foreign policies. Palin spoke from the cramming she did this past week in Arizona. Though she didn’t have a “meltdown,” she also didn’t prove that she has a working knowledge of the issues that are extremely important to voters.

Sarah Palin relies on her winking, her “gotcha,” her referring to the voters as “Joe Six-Pack” and her “maverick” mantra to show the voters she understands the issues with which they struggle.

With John McCain agreeing with President Bush over 90 percent of the time on pertinent issues, he’s hardly the “maverick” he claims, and if Palin agrees with McCain, she’s hardly the “maverick” she claims.

The Obama-Biden ticket will truly be a force for changing the ways of doing business in Washington. Now that’s being a “maverick”!
