LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

GOP ticket did not benefit from debate

Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008 | 2:04 a.m.

As to Thursday night’s debate, Gov. Sarah Palin did nothing to further erode her reputation in the eyes of the public. In fact one might say she considerably enhanced her reputation. That said, I have to ask the question: Did she do anything to enhance the McCain-Palin ticket? In my opinion the answer is no.

Sen. Joe Biden spent considerable time attacking the record of Sen. John McCain. Did Palin at any time challenge Biden’s charges? If so, I can’t remember one.

Palin attacks Sen. Barack Obama’s nay vote on financing the troops in Iraq. Biden nullified that charge by stating that McCain also cast a nay vote on the very same bill. Palin never challenged that statement, nor did she try to justify McCain’s vote. How does that help the McCain-Palin ticket?

On the other side of the coin, if memory serves me correctly, Biden challenged each and every attack Palin threw at Obama.

Many may consider that Palin won the debate simply because she enhanced her personal reputation after the debacle with Katie Couric. However, if the point of the debate was to enhance the McCain-Palin ticket, she most certainly lost the debate.
