An 11-year-old bicyclist was killed when struck by a pickup truck this morning in east Las Vegas, according to Metro Police.
The bicyclist, whose identity is being withheld pending notification of relatives, collided with the pickup truck about 9:28 a.m. today at the intersection of Morris Street and Danica Way, police said.
Officers said that evidence and witness statements indicate that a 2008 Ford F-350 pickup truck driven by Pearce Thorns, 21, Las Vegas, was traveling south on Morris Street when the bicyclist riding a BMX Fury going east on Danica Way failed to stop at a stop sign.
The bicyclist was transported to Sunrise Hospital and was pronounce deal a short time after arrival, police said.
Officers said it appears failure to stop at the stop sign was the cause of the accident, which is still under investigation.
Police are asking for anyone who saw the accident to contact the Secret Witness line at 383-5555 or Detective William Redfairn at 828-3128.
