Momentum may not count for much in EA Sports land, but post rivalry hangovers do.
Despite a surprising three-touchdown effort by running back Chris Brogdon, the virtual Rebels were simply unable to keep up with the virtual Colorado State Rams, going down 41-24.
UNLV had an opportunity to tie things up late in the fourth quarter when a 2-yard rushing touchdown by Brogdon made the score 31-24. But the Rams came back with a 32 second, two-play, touchdown scoring drive that highlighted another embarrassing day for the defense.
Rams quarterback Billy Farris completed a 24-yard pass to tailback Garntrell Johnson, before targeting receiver Ryan Gardner on a short flat route. Gardener managed to shake off a tackle and burn the rest of the Rebel defense on his way to a 42-yard touchdown, which sealed the deal for the Rams.
Farris had the best simulated stats of his career, completing 93 percent of his passes for 355 yards and five touchdowns.
He looked for his tight ends in the end zone, throwing a 1-yard touchdown scoring pass to Chris Kawlok in the first quarter and a 7-yard touchdown pass to Kory Sperry in the second to give the Rams a 14-3 lead.
In the dying moments of the first half Rebel quarterback Omar Clayton suddenly came to life, capping a 7-play, 73-yard drive with a 6-yard pass to Chris Brogdon for the touchdown.
But Farris hit back driving to the red zone before tossing a 16-yard touchdown pass to full back Zac Pauga with just 1:15 left in the second quarter.
However the Rebels hung in there, with Omar Clayton hitting Brogdon in the endzone for a second time with just 14 seconds left on the clock. The point after made the score 21-17 going into the half.
But the Rebel offense sputtered in the third quarter and they were unable to get the running game going at all, with Frank Summers being held to just 18 yards.
Clayton, on the other hand had another decent game, completing 36 passes for 372 yards and two touchdowns.
