Letter to the editor:
The truth of GOP culpability hurts
Friday, Oct. 3, 2008 | 2:03 a.m.
In the movie ”A Few Good Men,” Jack Nicholson, playing a Marine colonel, barks at Tom Cruise, playing a Navy prosecutor: “You want the truth? You can’t handle the truth!”
I was reminded of that line when Republicans whined about Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi’s stating it was Republicans who got us into this financial mess. Who else would you blame?
Republicans would want you to forget they took control of Congress in 1994 and the White House in January 2001, and that they banded together and voted in lock step in a manner the Mafia would envy.
They passed bills to remove the regulation of banks, lending institutions and Wall Street companies. Now, faced with the truth spoken by Pelosi, they are outraged. What the Republican Party needs is a few good men (and women) honest enough to admit their mistakes.

"They passed bills to remove the regulation of banks, lending institutions and Wall Street companies"
The only bill that deregulated anything was signed into law by Clinton and it was supported by Biden and Reid.
I guess Clinton, Biden and Reid are not a few good men honest enough to admit their mistakes.
You would have an argument to say, There was greed everywhere, but here is simple.
There was no de-regulation, It was a lack of regulation. This helped create the "perfect storm".
Oh there was regulation in place preventing the issuance of bad credit loans. But the Social Engineers (read Democrat elected officials), decided to ease the requirements for these subprime loans. Don't have any credit? Not to worry, you got the loan anyway. Sure you got that loan from a capitalist bank, but only when the ilks of Barney Franks kept pushing to ease or totally remove those onerous loan requirements, that was keeping the "poor folk" from getting housing. And if that capitalistic bank balked at doing so, then there were declared "racists" and in a position to lose their banking charter.
The capitalistic banks made the loans based on the fact that the government would secure these loans with federal protection.
Well the "Poor Folks" have been defaulting like crazy and when the capitalistic banks show up for the money to protect these defaulting loans, the liberals are screaming that these banks made bad loans and shouldn't be protected.
The Democrats have been playing lose with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac funds since Jimmy Cahtah's adminitration and now that its come back to bight them in the butts, they resort to blaming the banks and Capitalism.
Another well intention democrat giveaway that has blown up (re: Social Security) You can expect Obama's proposed health care system to do the same
Well said LV_Tom. You can have a brewsky with me anytime. But wait til redferret reads your post. (you said poor a lot)
I think the reason my post got removed is they have to temper it in here for the kindergarteners.
Or, I maybe have referred to the paper as being too liberal or i called somebody something.
Don't forget they blamed the republicans too LV_Tom
Obama's health car reform will be the death knell
of capitalism as we know it, period.
natinal health care will cost 500 billion first year, it goes up from there, second year they have to go in and straighten out the bigger thieves administrating it they say it will cost 100 billion a year more just to police it bringing total to 600 billion per year . Health industry is way to big for the democrats to leave alone, The money around it would get any white collar gangsters attention. Health care has problems but they would be astronomical if Barack (subprime) Obama gets his plan in there. Makes this mortgage bailout look like a snack for the big spending democrats.
I get a kick out of how hollywood liberals portray republicans like they are a bunch of old cheap prunes, well,
If the prunes really had been in charge, a lot of lower middle class folk would not have been using their home equity as a personal atm living large as they say, and we just would'nt be having these discussions right now about who is gonna pay for it. I thought Steve Wynn said it well the other day, Its the Monday morning hang over after a weekend of big time partying and now we get to pay for it all.
