Poll: Obama has 4-point edge in Nevada

Friday, Oct. 3, 2008 | 1:24 p.m.

A new poll released today shows Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama ahead of Republican Sen. John McCain by four points in Nevada.

The Rasmussen Reports survey shows Obama with 51 percent support, compared to 47 percent for McCain.

McCain had a three-point advantage in Nevada in a Rasmussen poll last month. Rasmussen now gives McCain a 41 percent chance of winning the state.

The pollster says the economy is the top issue on the minds of voters, and only 8 percent of Nevada voters rate the U.S. economy as good or excellent, while 62 percent say the economy is in poor shape.

"Voters in Nevada are fairly evenly divided as to which candidate they trust most when it comes to the economy. Obama now leads by nine points among women but trails by two among men," Rasmussen said in a statement today.

The pollster said McCain is viewed favorably by 54 percent of the state’s voters, Obama by 53 percent. As for running mates, Sen. Joseph Biden is viewed favorably by 52 percent, while 50 percent view Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin favorably.
