Letter to the editor:

With Palin, we’ve reached new depths

Friday, Oct. 3, 2008 | 2:04 a.m.

Sarah Palin’s candidacy represents to me the official dumbing down of American expectations. She is not representative of average Americans; she and her husband are among that special group of elitists who think they are better than the rest of us by virtue of living in a small town and successfully hoodwinking their neighbors.

If it’s not clear now, it will become clear if she and John McCain are elected. Apparently the loss of respect around the world is not enough; now we seek the buffoon factor. The very fact that she can be considered a serious candidate shows how low we have sunk as a nation. If she were black or Hispanic she would be vilified.

  1. Barack 'sub-prime' Obama candidacy represents to me the official dumbing down of American expectations. He is not representative of average Americans; he and his wife are among that special group of elitists who think they are better than the rest of us by virtue of living in a corrupt south Chicago town and successfully hoodwinking their neighbors. Remember Obama thinks people who do not vote for him are bitter folk who cling to guns and religion to deal with their problems.

If it's not clear now, it will become clear if he and Biden are elected. Apparently the loss of respect around the world is not enough; now we seek the buffoon factor. The very fact that hecan be considered a serious candidate shows how low we have sunk as a nation. If he were white he would be vilified.

  2. There are always calls to release candidates' medical records. Wouldn't you love to have their IQ records released? It's not hard to guess which party would come out on top there... I'm voting for intelligence to run the country. Duh. (To many Republicans, intelligence is "elitist." Doesn't that say enough about the party to sway some of you still-undecideds?)

  3. Obama will not release his records from Columbia.

    What is he hiding?

  4. America started with common citizens being elected to guide America. The country ran strong and solid when real citizen politicians were at the helm. Harry Truman was considered beneath them by the elite in Washington. Ronald Reagen was nothing but an actor and a cowboy according the the snobs in New York City. It's time to bring some common man and woman back to guide America. We know we could do better than Reid and his friends these past 20 years.

  5. BOTH candidates represent the 'dumbing down' to me. Oh woe is US(A)

  6. What are you talking about neiman1? Have you opened a US history book? From the beginning we've had "the elite" running the country. Why do you think there were property requirements to vote (that and being white). On top of that our founding fathers were not these salt of the earth folk. For the most part they were well-to-do land owners/leading merchants/leading intellectuals. I don't know about you, but that sounds like the elite to me.
Now I'm not against the founding fathers (actually I love them), but to throw out there that we've always had citizen politicians is a bald faced fable. The first real citizen president was Abraham Lincoln. And fyi that was in the 1860s.

  7. nancy32, you better hurry up, you're going to miss the school bus!

  8. Comment removed by staff.

  9. wow nice job there tokaloshe, calling all poor people stupid and lazy. I suppose that means (since minorities are disproportionately among the poor) non-whites are stupid and lazy too. That kind of crass attitude makes me sick, and you wonder why the polls are tipping to Barack?

  10. Lets make one thing perfectly clear,
I would vote for nance32 way before redferret.

    Wanted no misunderstandings.

  11. Ferret you are typical crazy left,
You mis-interpret my remark about poor people and then all of a sudden i am a racist?
Listen to you, the election is tipping to
Barack because because of skin color? not leadership or experience eh?
you truly have evil agenda and are a genuine hypocrite, come on out in the open where we can get a good look at ya.

  12. Nope, I was just extrapolating what you said. If poor people are stupid and lazy, then it leads me to believe that you feels that way about minorities. Since minorities make up a disproportionate amount of the poor (vis a vis their percentage of the general population) then you must feel that most of minorities are stupid and lazy. Next time don't tickle the back of your throat with your toes, and I won't make that comment.
The other half of the comment (about Obama winning) had more to do with the fact that Republicans in general seem to give the cold shoulder to poorer folks (which are disproportionately made up of minorities). Hence the feeling that the poor/minorities will vote increasingly for Obama, because Republicans don't care about them. Since the poor are by far a larger group than the rich, that factor will tilt the race to Obama.

  13. I never said all poor people were lazy and stupid.
Typical crazy left, keep making it up as you go?

  14. yeah, keep saying that. Isn't that why a huge string of your comments were removed from multiple threads? For basically saying, "these lazy stupid poor people"? You don't have a lot of room to work with with a statement like that. As said before, just don't put your foot in your mouth, and I won't make that comment.

  15. that is not why they were removed.
    and again for your benefit,
i did not say all poor people are lazy and stupid.
And that is not what would get your post removed anyway. If you said all people who are poor are lazy that would be a very general statement and could mean a lot of things. but, if i say you are a _________ (redferret) thaT WILL GET YOUR POST REMOVED. Anyway i can see why a lot of people don't hang out on these discussions, a lot of the same people.

  16. Well you didn't qualify your statement; you simply said stupid lazy poor people. Without some kind of statement beforehand, it seems like you are making a statement of totality against all poor people. Again, there was nothing else on those posts, which leads me to believe that is why they were removed. Don't back down... just move on and remember to word your statements better in the future.

  17. And you just said "these lazy stupid poor people"
even that, although close, does not necessarily mean that you think all lazy people are poor.
That is how ridiculous they are, and you can actually report a post and that alone will get it removed. If you call somebody a moron in here it will get you removed. they want us to play nice.

  18. I agree with you on that.
Also, i must say i was born poor 46 years ago, so based on your theory i would have to believe that i am lazy and stupid and not white.
which none are true, in fact quite the opposite.

  19. Redferret,
You did insinuate that i was racist, and i was going to report you for that but then they would have removed your post and we woulkd not have the proof.

  20. Well, ya gotta do what ya gotta do. If you feel that way by all means, but I honestly don't think they would remove it for me making an assertion that was grounded. As said before and before and before... make your statements clear so people can't misinterpret them. Also it wasn't me who removed those posts from 3(?) other threads. Obviously I wasn't the only person offended by that kind of blanket assertion. In any case, moving on...
It's a dead horse being beaten at this point.

  21. This is where you can see Russia from Alaska.

    http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/politic...

This woman isn't even qualified to be a Governor let alone VP of the good old USA.

  22. Obama use to hang his foreign policy experience on his time living in a mulism country.

This man isn't even qualified to be a Senator let alone Prez of the good old USA.

  23. Everyone wants a walking encyclopedia for president/VP, but just look at all the problems caused by these geniuses from Robert McNamara on. Most of these screw-up politicians went to prestigious schools. Hell the CRAZIEST ideas come from these prestigious schools. Give me someone from the real world with common sense, intestinal fortitude and that knows right from wrong.

  24. After reading the comments on this board I am amazed.

This presidential race is not about who is "popular". This is a race of a pure difference in values and opinions by the candidates. Each have something to give, have different experience, personalities and vision.

Why do Americans vote based on someone's glasses?

You should vote based on the issues. If you favor Supply Side Economic Theory and Religion in Politics, vote McCain. If you favor Demand Side, Pluralistic Societal Values, vote Barack.

It is pretty simple. Stop looking at who you like if the are pretty

Government is complex. Working with nations around the globe is complex. This is not about who can wink. Its about who can understand the issues and represent the United States so that it has respect.

Moreover, what is an Elitist? Why is it in the United States that if you have a college degree and perhaps an advaced degree, have earned a good living and think about the world around you; you are an Elitist?

Where is the respect for people who have become educated and who dedicated their lives to public service? The only questions as Americans should be

"Can this candidate work well with others?"
    "Do they understand the issues?"
"Do they command respect among the rest of the world?"
"Do they have the determination to work hard for Americans?"
"Do they have an understanding of economic issues?"
"What is their motive for running for president?"

Good luck in your voting decision. Think hard and vote wisely.

  25. Don, didn't the last two "elections" (for want of a better term) clearly show that the American public in general doesn't really care about ability?

No, they'd rather have a beer with an idiot who tanked business after business, has no driving record prior to the age of 40, was born with a silver spoon up his nose, got away with desertion thanks to his Daddy, and who is not only a fake cowboy who doesn't ride horses, has a fake accent, too.

They don't care about ability. "I like him!" is what matters. EVERYTHING about this going-down-the-tubes-fast society is about POPULARITY and LOOKS and anything and everything that doesn't matter a damn.

We have a mayor here who calls people names on a regular basis and while I might find it funny in the moment, this man has no business whatsoever representing ANY city.

Then again, considering the idiots who've taken to populating this city, this may be just about right.

    Whatever.

  26. I don't know of any candidate worth millions who can truly relate to those who live paycheck to paycheck or damn near close to it.

  27. When you own scores of homes and have millions in the bank or in stocks/bonds why would you worry about the price of a gallon of gas. Heck if I won a million dollar lottery even after taxes I wouldn't worry about it toooooooo much.

  28. If you want to really reach the depths start with Obama's friends especially Ayers. Now you are entering the bottomless pit of slime.

  29. If you want a socialist country, elect Obama. He will put more individuals on welfare, give more aid to foreign governments, put individuals into leadership positions like his buddies the Rev. Wright and Ayers.

Neither of the two candidates are my choice, however I believe that McCain is the better choice over Obama.

  30. WT-
Here is the reality. Obama will be President and he will have a Senate Majority. If they do a better job than the neocons, the House will fall to the Democrats by 2012.

The possibility that Democrats will build a muscular, 60-seat Senate majority is looking increasing plausible, with new polls showing a powerful surge for the party's candidates in Minnesota, Kentucky and other states.

The republican party is being flushed down the sewer of incompetence due to leaders just like McSpend, Palin, Bush, Cheney, and all of the neocons that care only about the politically connected.

  31. The thought of Obama as president is scary enough but also with a majority in either the house or senate is down right terrifying.

We will all be bowing down to kiss the chosen ones feet on Obama-Day.

We will have chalk this one up to another failed Democratic party screw up we call public education. I swear I am praying I will wake up to find all this has been a nightmare, Freddy Kruger wasn't even this scary.
