Another warm day, but cooler temperatures approaching Las Vegas

Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008 | 6:54 a.m.

As the sun sets today after another day of temperatures in the mid 90s, Las Vegas Valley residents will notice a slight change as winds 10 to 15 mph will bring high clouds as a cooler, more fall-like weather pattern approaches the valley.

After lows in the lower 70s overnight, Friday brings more clouds and stronger winds, 15 to 25 mph with gusts possible to 30 mph. The daytime high is expected to reach 90 degrees on Friday.

Then Saturday dawns with clouds, temperatures in the low 80s and a 30 percent chance of rain as the first winter-like storm drives south across the Great Basin and sweeping into Southern Nevada.

Overnight on Saturday the temperatures drop into the 60s and there's a chance for rain in the valley and even the first dusting of snow in the Spring Mountains, including Mount Charleston, above 8,000 feet.

After this cold storm system passes over the Las Vegas Valley Sunday's temperatures should range from the 70s for a high to the upper 50s to lower 60s for lows.

By Monday temperatures rebound into the lower 80s with lows in the 60s, the normal temperatures for this time of year.
