2 workers hurt at Vegas Strip construction site

Thu, Oct 2, 2008 (7:54 a.m.)

A fire official says two workers have been taken to a hospital after they were injured on the job at a Las Vegas Strip high-rise casino construction site.

Clark County fire spokesman Scott Allison says the men were conscious and talking with rescuers called just after 6 a.m. Thursday to the 63rd floor of the Fontainebleu-Las Vegas building site.

Allison says they were hit by a large beam.

He says one man has head, shoulder and leg injuries, and the other reported lower back pain and a leg injury.

Allison says Nevada OSHA will investigate the cause of the accident.

The $2.8 billion Fontainebleau is being built by privately held Fontainebleau Resorts LLC. It is due to open in late 2009 with almost 4,000 hotel rooms, condominiums, a casino and spa.
