Letter to the editor:
Self-interests killed the bailout plan
Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2008 | 2:05 a.m.
Throw away those “Country First” signs!
Most of the House Republicans and many of the weak-in-the-knees Democrats said the “people back home” sent them a strong message to vote against the economic bailout plan. Constituents First!
Republican leaders said they didn’t supply the votes because the Democrats behaved badly, and that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi poisoned the conference. Hurt Feelings First!
Then John McCain said it failed because “Barack Obama and his allies in Congress infused unnecessary partisanship into the process.” Partisan Politics First!
I’m quite sure that every congressman who voted “aye” for this bill held his or her nose while doing so. There was nothing to gain by voting yes other than the hope of avoiding economic disaster for the country. Country First!
Those who voted “no” for ideological or political reasons are rolling the dice with the country’s financial health. No wonder they are out front in the blame game.

"these banks can be sold again to public interests, and most likely make a profit, the taxpayers not having to pay one dime."
LOL...........make a profit.......LOL
I could be wrong but the Senate voting for the bailout today and the House tomorrow.
It is not over yet.
John Sloan thinks you should vote for a weak fix, instead of improving it
Maybe what killed the so-called 'bailout plan' were the politicians who finally listened to the very people they were elected to represent and voted accordingly. Good, bad or otherwise these politicians do need to represent!
