A mother has been indicted today by a Clark County grand jury for the murder of her 11-year-old daughter who suffered from juvenile diabetes, although a previous murder conviction was overturned.

The grand jury indicted Cheryl Botzet in connection with the death of her daughter, Ariel Botzet.

Her initial arraignment has been set for Oct. 15 before District Judge Sally Loehrer. At that time, a trial date should be set.

Ariel Botzet died in February 2003 of ketoacidosis, an acidifying of the blood that is brought on when diabetics don't receive insulin injections.

The coroner concluded that the condition was a result of chronic medical neglect, but prosecutors charged Cheryl Botzet with first-degree murder for allegedly failing to monitor her diabetic daughter's insulin levels.

Botzet was convicted of second-degree murder, based on evidence that doctors and nurses had warned the mother about giving her daughter insulin shots. The conviction was overturned.
