Coroner confirms death of former police officer

The Clark County coroner's office confirmed that 50-year-old Christopher Van Cleef of Las Vegas, a former Metro Police lieutenant, died from a gunshot wound to the head.
The coroner listed the manner of death a suicide, a spokeswoman said.
Van Cleef's death on Tuesday is still under investigation after he was discovered near the railroad tracks off Green Valley Parkway not far from his home.
Van Cleef's name had surfaced in an ongoing federal investigation of homeowners associations' corruption.
Van Cleef's career spanned years with Metro Police. He retired as a lieutenant in 2005 after a DUI arrest in Utah.
No charges have been filed in the ongoing federal investigation.
