LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

On pet sports issue, Obama echoes Bush

Sunday, Nov. 23, 2008 | 2:04 a.m.

I read an Associated Press article on Monday that reported that President-elect Barack Obama, appearing on the program “60 Minutes,” said, “I am going to throw my weight around a bit” to create a college football playoff system.

I recall that another president made a similar statement when he said something like “I have earned some political capital and I intend to use it.” That president was George W. Bush.

Was this the latest attempt by Obama to convince the American people that he is an everyday, tailgating, barbecuing college football fan? This could be a foreboding example of how he plans to use his influence over the next four years.

Discussion: 1 comment so far…

  1. Mr. Wilson: When GWB spoke of using his "political capital", he WASN'T speaking of trying to influence anyone to create a college football playoff system. He was talking about having a MANDATE to do whatever he wanted because the republicans controlled the entire government.

So no, it's NOT "a foreboding example of how [Obama] plans to use his influence over the next four years".

If you're going to attempt predictions at least use a crystal ball or tarot cards.
