Walker Furniture seeks people to help
Walker Furniture is nominations of individuals and families in need for the company's 15th annual Home for the Holidays program.
The program will supply 36 families with a house full of brand-new furniture in time for the holiday season.
Anyone with an individual or family in mind should send a letter to Walker Furniture describing the situation. All letters will be reviewed by a panel of outside individuals.
Letters can be sent to Larry Alterwitz, CEO Walker Furniture, 301 S. Martin Luther King Blvd., Las Vegas, NV 89106. Letters can be e-mailed to tmeier@walkerfurniture.com or faxed to 384-7772.
All letters must be received by Dec. 8 and furniture deliveries will begin Dec. 18.
Local blood drives planned in area
United Blood Services will host blood drives at the following locations:
- 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Nov. 22, Trader Joe's, 10345 S. Eastern Ave.
- 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Nov. 23, Galleria at Sunset mall, 1300 W. Sunset Road.
- 7 a.m.-1:45 p.m. Nov. 23, St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 130 N. Pecos Road.
- 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Nov. 25, College of Southern Nevada Henderson Campus, 700 College Drive, Building B parking lot.

HOA ombudsman to hold public meetings
The state ombudsman for community associations will host a series of outreach events to help residents understand their rights and responsibilities.
Ombudsman Lindsay Wait and education officer Nick Haley will speak.
The meetings will be at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 22 at Sahara West Library, 9600 W. Sahara Ave., Dec. 13 at Sun City Aliante community center, 7390 Aliante Parkway, and Jan. 16 at the Bradley Building, 2501 E. Sahara Ave. For more information, call 486-4480.
Items collected for Toys for Tots
The U.S. Marine Corps has placed a collection box in the lobby of the Henderson Convention Center, 200 S. Water St., to collect toys for Toys for Tots.
New and unwrapped toys will be collected 7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. until Dec. 19.

Pets photos with Santa offered at mall
The Galleria at Sunset mall, 1300 W. Sunset Road, is inviting pets to meet Santa and have photos taken 6-8 p.m. Nov. 25 and 5-7 p.m. Dec. 7 in the lower level center court.
Photo packages will be available starting at $14.99.

Benefit gala to aid Green Valley Library
The Friends of the Henderson Libraries' Library Tree Lane opened Nov. 17 to kick off the Friends' annual fundraiser.
Trees and wreaths will be on display at the Paseo Verde Library, 280 S. Green Valley Parkway, during regular library hours, and other events will be held at the library through Dec. 1.
A gala will be held 7-10 p.m. Dec. 5 at the Paseo Verde Library. The trees and wreaths will be auctioned, benefiting the early childhood collection of the Green Valley Library, which will become a Henderson library in January.
Tickets for the gala cost $25 per person.

Hanukkah Bazaar planned for Dec. 7
Congregation Ner Tamid's Sisterhood is taking reservations for the annual Chanukah Bazaar Dec. 7.
Booth rates are $60 per table for synagogue members and $75 for non-members. Each space will include one eight-foot draped table and two chairs.

League of Cities awards Henderson
Henderson has been selected as one of eight cities in the nation to receive the Award for Municipal Excellence at the National League of Cities' 2008 Congress of Cities in Orlando, Fla.
As a gold winner in the 150,001 to 500,000 population category, Henderson is being honored for the Service Guarantee Program that meets customer needs with service level expectations.
