City’s Fun Walk to be a family affair

Henderson officials are encouraging children to attend the inaugural Family Fun Walk on Saturday — an event where children of all ages can collect stamps and stickers as they travel a paved trail beginning at Equestrian Park.

Henderson outdoor recreation coordinator Jennifer Magby is expecting 100 to 150 families to attend the 2-mile walk, which begins at 10 a.m, near Equestrian Drive and Magic Way.

"We were looking at creative ways to get families out on the trails," Magby said. "We also wanted to get families and their children exercising without really thinking about it."

Each family will receive a trail guide. Stationed along the paved trails will be six booths, where children can learn about conservation, as well as animals like desert tortoises, birds and insects. Magby said children will be able to collect stamps and stickers at each colorfully decorated booth.

The paved path is an easy one for strollers, she said. Walkers younger than 12 must be accompanied by a parent, and 13- to 18-year-olds must have a waiver signed by a parent or guardian. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m.
