Updated story: Police: Man shot ex-wife as she held their daughter
A woman who was shot today at a downtown Las Vegas casino parking lot was there to hand over her children to her former husband, Metro Police said.
The woman was shot as she sat inside a vehicle about 12:35 p.m., police said.
Her current boyfriend, citizens and security guards at the Gold Spike Hotel and Casino at 400 E. Ogden Ave., restrained the man who shot her until officers arrived, police said.
The woman was taken to a local hospital where she is in critical condition, police said.
Police have not released the suspect in the shooting or the victim. Metro Police Domestic Violence Unit has been called in to investigate, police said.
The conditions and location of the children were not revealed by police.

Even as recently as a few months ago this stuff never happened in the tourist areas.
Oscar better forget about the football stadium and start dealing with the ever increasing crime in this city or people aren't going to feel safe coming here.
I would think this was a personal attack, not random. At least I hope so.
If the Domestic Violence Unit has been called to the scene to investigate, this would not be a random Crime. No matter what is done to "Clean up" a specific area of crime, domestic violence can strike anywhere, at any time. How can anyone stop a psychotic ex-spouse or lover from showing up somewhere unannounced and committing an act of violence?
Arbitrary violence has taken place in tourist areas for a long time, just look at the shootings in the parking garage at Caesers Palace, or inside the NYNY Casino, or several others in casinos not on the strip itself. Just because an area is typically not looked upon as a "High crime" locale, does not mean it wont happen regardless of any safeguards put in place.
The details of this crime were not available when earlier posts were made.
Still, the vast majority of crimes like these are - as in this case - comitted by acquaintances. Oscar cannot stop them unless he can somehow fix society's core problems.
There's a lot of people calling Vegas on its problems in these comment sections, problems that happen in every city of 2 million people. If we could eliminate crimes of passion, we'd eliminate a huge percent of violent crime - in every city.
steven,
Stupid comment. Why not blame it on Bush?
