Gibbons chooses new press secretary with ‘more experience’

Mon, Nov 10, 2008 (11:22 a.m.)

CARSON CITY – Gov. Jim Gibbons, who fired his spokesman, Ben Kieckhefer, on Friday, said today he wanted “more experience” in his press secretary.

Dan Burns, currently the spokesman for the Department of Public Safety, will become the governor’s press secretary.

Gibbons has offered Kieckhefer the job of spokesman for the Department of Public Safety.

Kieckhefer said today that he’s “not sure” whether he will accept the new job. “We will just have to wait and see,” he said.

The appointment of Burns has not been officially announced yet.

  1. Oh my, poor Dan! Was kind of a nice guy back in his reporter days for FOX 5 as I recall. Wonder what kind of horrible things he's been doing over these past few years to deserve this bummer of an appointment.

  2. So...Gibbons throws Special K under the bus. Hmmm....Gibbons should just save the state some coin and forget hiring a press secretaty because he's ruined his image and no one is going to be able to salvage it. Gibbons has already lost the 2010 election and the next press secretary will just be rearanging deck chairs on the Titanic. I bet that pays really well.

  3. So much of Gibbons staff is made up of these lightweight youngsters......No wonder his administration is in such dissaray. This is typical of state administrators who feel the need to surround themselves with young inexperienced folks to fullfill their sense of power and control. They ought to grow up and start putting some experience into these jobs.

  4. Ben did a phenomenal job for the gov. I seriously doubt the "more experienced" press secretary will be an improvement.
