Letter to the editor:
Obama empowers the American electorate
Friday, Nov. 7, 2008 | 2:05 a.m.
Yes we did!
We had a choice between a man who wanted us to dream and a man who wanted us to be afraid. (We had enough fear mongering over the past eight years.) We chose the dream — we chose hope.
We voted our hearts. We voted for people. We voted for jobs, health care for all, and renewable energy. We voted for a man whose eloquence and grace are unmatched. We voted for a man whose vision will keep us on track for a better future. We voted for the promise of America.
Throughout the campaign, Barack Obama reminded us that this election wasn’t about him but about all of us. He has said, “I’m asking you to believe, not just in my ability to bring about real change in Washington ... I’m asking you to believe in yours.” He has given us back our democracy and put the power back in the hands of the people. Imagine that, a government that listens to the people.
At the Republican convention, Sarah Palin mocked Obama’s service as a community organizer. The Obama campaign was brilliantly led by community organizers in every city across this country. On Jan. 20, the White House will be occupied by a black man who was empowered by a community well organized.
Power to the people!

Hope for what? Change what? Promise of America?
Talk about empty rhetoric.
KDR81 "Hope for what? Change what?"
Really, you can't see it? I can see it already. Massive change has already happened. It's probably not what you are your friends talk about, since you lost.
But seriously, you seem to be missing what is happening. And I think that is the cornerstone problem with the Republican party at this very moment.
Your side talks of change in old fashioned ways. Only old and shallow people still buy it. Others voted for McCain only because you scared the crap out of them about Obama. They could not see what he really was. Too bad.
All the while real change is happening in brand new ways. My 20 year old daughter just kicked your butt in this election. Both in Nevada and in the Presidential race. Her and her friends gave a damn for the first time in their lives.
It may seem like empty rhetoric to you, but you aren't the slightest but objective. To me, what just happened and what is happening, is both fantastic and inspiring.
Let's see...
The electorate has the hope that it won't just be politics as usual the next four years. They have hope that this man will turn a lot of things around.
The electorate wants change, as in they've had enough of Bush. That's not a partisan statement. It's a fact. His numbers have tanked and maybe bottomed. People want a definite change from the 8 years of Bush.
As for the promise of America, I can't believe you are so dense as to not know a modicum of republican rhetoric about America. Such things as anybody can rise up to something (ie a black guy from a single mom becoming president, just maybe), that we are the greatest country on earth, that together as Americans we can do almost anything. Or he means that promise of America as the land of the free and home of the brave.
