Letter to the editor:
Constant criticism of Bush is unfair
Saturday, May 31, 2008 | 2:02 a.m.
Regarding John J. Huelbig Jr.’s attack on President Bush in his Thursday letter, headlined “There’s still time to punish Bush”:
Why does Mr. Huelbig join the critics’ constant chant?
The president has been defending the United States and trying to stamp out terrorism and forestall the ambitions of those whose declared aim is to murder all infidels. The president also has been for reducing taxes and for saving people on Medicare large sums of money on their prescriptions.
The current reports are that a great deal has been accomplished in Iraq and that the people, after long, hard, costly and painful battles, at last are able to move through their country in relative peace. They would still be brutalized by Saddam Hussein had our troops not helped free them from this oppressive, sadistic ruler.
Of course there will continue to be incidents, horrible ones, but the violence is dramatically reduced. Peace seems within reach.
Perhaps a democracy will at last be realized in the Middle East. These countries will have some hope at last.
Then we have the guru of all that is true — Scott McClellan, President Bush’s former press secretary. Does he really have the facts regarding Bush’s thoughts and motivations or was he merely told what to say in his announcements?
It’s handy that McClellan’s book comes out now. Those who wish to believe him will, and those who don’t will not buy it. Obviously he is out of a job and has been planning for a long time to make money on his perspective, skewed or not.
