flashpoint:
The initiative process in Nevada is a mess
Friday, May 23, 2008 | 2 a.m.
If anyone didn’t think the initiative process in Nevada was
a mess before now, they must be willfully ignorant. Gondolier Numero Uno Sheldon Adelson filed three initiatives, and now all three may be knocked off the ballot because his minions used the wrong forms. That has to hurt. And ex-Assemblywoman Sharron Angle, for a record third time, has seen hers kicked off the ballot — so property taxes will not be capped again, although the Jim Gibbons-Bob Beers-Sharron Angle Journal (aka the R-J) says she will file a lawsuit challenging the decision. That’s what this process here is — file an initiative, someone files a lawsuit, you file one back. I am sure this is exactly what the Founding Fathers intended, folks. Ain’t democracy grand?
