Letter to the editor:

Real losers in energy crisis are Americans

Tuesday, May 20, 2008 | 2:02 a.m.

It appears that Nevada Sen. Harry Reid and the Democratic Congress, along with the environmentalists, are keeping us from drilling for oil in Alaska as well as in our oceanic coastal areas — which should have been done years ago, but Bill Clinton vetoed the bill.

It appears these people are more concerned about the birds, bees, fish and other wildlife than they are about the welfare of the American people, who have to pay high fuel prices. We are forced to buy oil from countries that couldn’t care less about the USA’s needs for fuel, and they are taking advantage of us by charging outrageous prices for their oil.

Big Oil is also taking advantage of us by charging high gasoline prices. These high prices are causing hardships for people in all walks of life. People are losing jobs and food prices are going higher and higher — all as a result of high fuel costs being passed on to the customers.

Our economy nationwide would not be in a recession right now if we had started developing new sources of energy and drilling for more of our own oil years ago. In conclusion, all of these politicians and the environmentalists would really enjoy every American living by candlelight.
