LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

GOP oil men responsible for energy crisis

Monday, May 19, 2008 | 2:05 a.m.

Don’t be conned into believing the Republicans when they blame the Democrats for the energy crisis we’re experiencing. Know that President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney are experienced oil people.

They know oil, but apparently precious little about other forms of energy. Know also that the Republicans controlled Congress from 1994 until 2006. During this time the Democrats made repeated attempts to pass legislation requiring the Detroit car makers to make more fuel efficient vehicles, only to see their efforts blocked by the Republicans.

It was the same for Democratic attempts to subsidize solar energy panels, wind towers, geothermal sources for electric power and other concepts that would have helped reduce our need for foreign oil — all blocked by the Republicans.

So if you see a blindfolded Republican trying to pin the energy crisis tail on the Democratic donkey, redirect him to the GOP elephant, were it belongs.
