Letter to the editor:

This Democratic race isn’t over

Thu, May 15, 2008 (2:04 a.m.)

I didn’t send a thank you letter to Brian Greenspun for standing up for Hillary Clinton in his Sunday column because I knew that someone — in this case, Bill DiBenedetto in his Wednesday letter — would say that Mr. Greenspun has it wrong.

Well, Mr. DiBenedetto and other Barack Obama supporters, please know I am not ready to call the Democratic race for our presidential nominee over yet. I, like so many others, am not ready to fall in line behind Obama.

Just because I am a lifelong Democrat doesn’t mean I can support Obama. He hasn’t won me over yet. I haven’t been impressed with his rhetoric and slick speeches. I am worried about his lack of leadership experience. To me, he doesn’t walk his talk.

No, the race isn’t over yet. West Virginia proved that. The voters there didn’t just fall in line behind the so-called winner and neither will I. Obama and his supporters need to reach out to the Clinton supporters. Show us what you see in him that we don’t.

And being nasty, by calling for Hillary to quit, isn’t going to do it. It will be a hard pill to swallow to find myself stuck between John McCain, with another four years of failed Bush Republican politics, and risking our country in the hands of an unproven smooth talker such as Obama and those who don’t respect everyone’s voice in the process.

  1. Donna, I am a Obama supporter and have never, ever said a bad thing about Clinton. I think Clinton has every right to stay in the race for as long as she wishes. But, it's obvious that it will all be over by Tuesday, June 3rd - and the party does need to unite and come together behind one nominee as quickly as possible.

In every primary there is going to be one winner and we've all been disappointed in past races (I started out as an Edwards supporter) - bottom line, we must come together to elect a Democrat!

    The reality is simple:

The people supporting both candidates that are threatening to stay home are COWARDS! The people, again from either side, that are threatening to vote for McCain are TRAITORS!

We can not just blame the Republicans for the past 8 years of Bush, or the past 28 years since the Reagan revolution - we, as Democrats, have to recognize that too many so-called Democrats were COWARDS for staying home, not volunteering, and not voting AND too many were TRAITORS!

These are part of the major reasons we have the worse President ever in the history of America AND the worst Governor ever in the history of Nevada!

My basic argument for supporting Obama is very, very simple - "A New Broom Cleans Best!" But, if by some near miracle, Clinton wins the primary race I will fully support her immediately without delay - and that needs to be the attitude of ALL DEMOCRATS!

Now, get past your personal feelings and realize how many lives are on the line if McCain gets elected - have you thought about that? Now, which is more important your feelings or the lives of others? It should be a pretty simple decision either way!
