flashpoint:
Nevada not a progressive state?
Wednesday, May 14, 2008 | 2 a.m.
Who says Nevada is not a progressive state? If the
Democrats take over the state Senate, we will have a black majority leader, in the most powerful post outside of the Assembly speakership, which will be held by a woman. Steven Horsford and Barbara Buckley as leaders of the Legislature? Now that’s a progressive’s dream come true. And what about Congress? Even though it’s a long shot, it’s possible all three House members from Nevada could be women — Shelley Berkley, Dina Titus and Jill Derby. My guess is the Democrats would take batting .667, but you get the point. We already have women in half the constitutional offices, so whatever happens this year would just be icing on the cake. We are a backwater no more! Really.
