HOLDINGS: 11 casino-hotel properties in Nevada, Mississippi, Louisiana, Indiana and New Jersey.
EMPLOYEES: 11,000
PROBLEMS: Lost New Jersey casino license for Tropicana Casino and Resort in December after being judged by state regulators as unable to properly operate a first-class casino due to severe layoffs and poor performance. That triggered a series of financing crises and defaults that was expected to culminate Monday in a Chapter 11 filing in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Delaware.

Assets: $2.8 billion.
Liabilities: $3.3 billion
WHAT'S NEXT: Company plans to continue operating all properties and keep current staffing levels. Plans to ask judge for permission to keep paying employees, honor customer loyalty programs and pay vendors. Tropicana in Atlantic City being offered to potential buyers as required by state law. New owner could be selected within a few weeks. Tropicana Entertainment appealing denial of casino license.
