Letter to the editor:

It’s time to crack downon the medical world

Wednesday, March 5, 2008 | 2:04 a.m.

Regarding the Endoscopy Center of Southern Nevada on Shadow Lane:

Why weren’t Dipak Desai, Vishvinder Sharma, Eladio Carrera and Clifford Carrol handcuffed and jailed? The evidence compiled over the previous months has been overwhelming. They have enriched themselves at the expense of thousands of now endangered patients. Where are our decisive leaders?

Sixty years ago I witnessed my first of many (“command and control”) decisive and immediate actions at a bad scene. Brig. Gen. Born, the commanding general at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas, took immediate action when 400 men out of 500 fell, stricken with food poisoning after eating the noon meal of chicken ala king.

I was one of the 100 still standing. During the general’s interrogation of the mess hall staff, a three-week Air Force veteran (like myself) pulled on his sleeve, in my presence, and told the general he wanted to talk to him. The general told him to go ahead.

“Early this morning I was unpacking frozen chickens and they didn’t smell good to me, so I told the first cook about it. He told me to throw them into the pot they’re good enough for these guys,” he said. Gen. Born had the mess officer, the mess sergeant and the first cook handcuffed and remanded to the stockade right then and there.

In my opinion, our government officials are weak, indecisive and scared to upset the medical world. Reduced bail for Lacy Thomas, the former boss of University Medical Center? And now these four are allowed to run around loose? They should all be incarcerated. Let’s get the rotten apples out of the Las Vegas medical barrel and have those in charge earn their pay and my respect.

Discussion: 1 comment so far…

  1. In case some of you don't know, Dr. Desai and Dr. Sharma were on the Nevada State Medical Board. One could just assume that they used their influence on the other board members when any complaints were filed against Dr. Desai and/or his partners.
