Letter to the Editor:

Bush has flagrantly abused his power

With almost daily revelations about the abuse of power by the Bush administration, it has become apparent that the House of Representatives should prepare articles of impeachment against the president. It is the duty of Congress to investigate occurrences that could affect our rights and liberties, and to ensure that our laws are being followed, even at the highest levels of government.

President Bush has invoked “executive privilege” at every turn as Congress has tried to examine the failures that got us into the war in Iraq, how our failed energy policy was conceived, why a CIA agent’s identity was leaked to the press, why federal attorneys were irresponsibly fired, and on and on and on.

The president’s flagrant abuse of his presidential status goes way beyond the bounds of what a president’s power was intended for.

Although George W. Bush has managed to occupy the highest office in the country for almost eight years, it is more apparent every day that he never had to conform to any type of discipline during his pre-White House years, and that he has never been held responsible for his past misdeeds.

Although his remaining time in office is short, America should not have to endure his ongoing disregard of our laws and our Constitution. Impeachment seems to be applicable and overdue.
