flashpoint:
“Consensus” is a dirty word
Wed, Jun 18, 2008 (2 a.m.)
Am I the only one who thinks in some cases that “consensus”
is a dirty word? Much has been written in advance of next week’s special session about how no agreement has been reached among lawmakers and that Gov. Jim Gibbons either has no fixed plan or does not have the votes to pass whatever he might concoct before Monday to reduce the deficit. I say: Good. I know a lot of people want the Gang of 63 out of there quickly and would not mind a rubber-stamping repeal of the state worker/teacher pay raises. But it is called the Legislature. There is supposed to be a whole lot of legislating going on. Genuflecting to what the governor wants or what the party wants hardly fits the bill. Who else is for a raucous debate? Don’t be shy.
