flashpoint:
Initiative petition nonsense
Thu, Jun 5, 2008 (2 a.m.)
Are you having trouble keeping all the initiative petition
nonsense straight? So the Sands folks proposed two initiatives to divert room taxes and mandate supermajorities for tax increases by referendum. But there were lawsuits and then the secretary of state said the petitioners didn’t follow the law, so the Sands appealed and the secretary of state denied the appeal this week. And now they might sue to overturn the secretary of state. And then we have all that court action on term limits, which passed in different forms more than a decade ago and no one knows when they take effect. And then the teachers wanted to raise gaming taxes but gave up. It looked as if there might be four on the ballot. And now there may be none. Now I’m confused.
