Letter to the editor:
Iraq war is tearing this country apart
Thu, Jul 24, 2008 (2:01 a.m.)
What does winning in Iraq mean?
I don’t know, but I do know the war is dividing people in America. It appears the civil war in Iraq may be in a temporary holding pattern, but the constant rhetoric and arguing on news channels and in letters to newspapers are driving our great nation’s people to hate one another.
We are now in a civil verbal strife rivaling that which preceded our own Civil War. Every day CNN, MSNBC and Fox have hard-liners from each political party deliver their rhetoric and try to outyell one another and see whether they can silence the opponent. This is sheer stupidity. They should use political statements to unite the country, not divide it.
How can we say we are winning in Iraq if we are spending billions to maintain this war and the cost of our everyday necessities is pushing many Americans into poverty?
We haven’t found Osama bin Laden, but he has found us. Yes, we may have quelled some of the strife in Iraq, but bin Laden is laughing because he knows he has helped create our nation’s recession by infiltrating Iraq after our stupid invasion.
His killers have moved back to their safe havens, but he will patiently wait to make his next move. Let us hope he doesn’t muster a quarter-million killers and come at our overextended troops.

Whiny liberal corrosives don't know what winning means anymore. All da lib knows IS defeat and internal political corrosion, as this LTE finely displays.
As the Iraqi Government now has much more room to maneuver and is confident enough to ask for American withdrawal timelines - this Ellis person STILL doesn't know what winning means. Iraq's leaders are less fearful of being slaughtered by the al Qaeda-inspired outsiders who kill the innocent FIRST.
As the SURGE has been proven a massive SUCCESS and immense PROGRESS has been achieved, the only future the lead-helmet liberal has is to squawk the pre-SURGE talking points of defeat and failure.
Insanity: The interminable LIBERAL squakking about defeat and failure in the face of PROGRESS and ongoing trends of SUCCESS in Iraq.
Congratulations to President Bush and his fine adaptation to the SURGE. Also, to General David Petraeus and the breve men and women of the finest military on earth in this breakthrough in Iraq.
There IS a verbal, political and rhetorical "civil war" happening in America today. The defeatist Reidists and Pelosists and their are responsible for about 428% of it.
ALL, for a few seats more.
Wow, goose step a little? Like the right is doing all these good things right? Family values while propositioning men in an airport. Sticking to oil when they should be moving to alternatives, and of course lying to get the nation to war. Quit mouthing AM talking points, it just looks bad.
"Wow, goose step a little?" Goose-stepping is what the modern day lib-fascists do. Otherwise, this is a bad, bad start for your non-response to growing and rising SUCCESS.
"Like the right is doing all these good things right? Family values while propositioning men in an airport." Can't stay on point, huh? What does THIS have to do with the SUCCESS and PROGRESS that has been accomplished in the last year from THE SURGE. NOTHING!!
"Sticking to oil when they should be moving to alternatives". Alternatives have NO HOPE of totally replacing oil, gas and the other fuels NATURALLY occurring inside our planet in our lifetimes - in my opinion. ALL this reliance on technologies that have not advanced in a pace which will REPLACE oil and gas-based fuels is the foolish corrosions of liberals who haven't found the answer!! Another fool around here has NO answers to when alts will take over == give me YOUR PLAN and TIMEFRAME as to when this will happen? (crickets expected......)
'and of course lying to get the nation to war." Look at all of these LIBERAL'S QUOTES, mostly AFTER Bush won the Presidency and in the run-up to Iraq
http://www.freedomagenda.com/iraq/wmd_qu...
" Quit mouthing AM talking points, it just looks bad." Liberals' point of views have NEVER survived in the arena of talk radio. Rush, Sean, Boortz and FOX slaughter all comers in the free market - because lib-talk can't defend its principles in the open market! Quit squakking talking points which have NEVER survived in the free marketplace of political ideas. Where's Air(head) America these days? Looking for more inner city kids to rip-off their $$$ to pay their bills???
I was on point. I was writing about how the right is no better than the left. But you crypto fascists can't see that, you can only mouth the talking points of radio. And fyi, most of conservative radio's talking points have been thoroughly debunked by Al Franken, like Hannity's idiocy over voucher schools, or in general Limbaugh.
ps, the NSDAP was more closely alligned to a reactionary hard right movement than anything remotely approaching the left, hence why they went after the communists, the socialists, and the trade unions. Read some history it helps.
"goth":
There is no EARNED place for lib-socialist radio in the free-market arena of ideas. Cable lib-news has and is being slaughtered in the ratings by FOX! Lib corrosions simply can't support itself. They have to be leeches, stealing from inner-city kids in frauds to delay its death in the free market.
Sean, Rush, Boortz etc ROCK the news-based radio world, while libs and the Reidists NEED to propose ways to kill it off (Fairness Doctrine) because they simply can't compete!
"I was writing about how the right is no better than the left. " Nothing in your previous posts here today means anything of the sort.
Iraq is being WON right now - the lack of GOOD NEWS by YOUR liberal major media cinches this fact. al-Maliki and the Iraqi Govt are talking timeframes BECAUSE they are feeling very good about the DEFEAT of the Islamofacist invaders and attackers of the innocent FIRST in Iraq. These SAME entities which the left has supported, defended and aligned themselves with by corroding America and Bush from within. ALL, for a few seats more = NOT for America.
Watch the pre-liberation Democrat videos, or couldn't you bear to see lib-lies debunked and thrown under the bus? They've always been lies, but repeating them in the face of current realities is what fuels the liberal these days!
You were nowhere near a point which reflects current-day realities - then tried to obfuscate an escape from this FACT!!
Perhaps we could talk about the utter incompetence of YEARS of warfare over there before people finally started taking advice and doing the surge? How many American soldiers had to die before this "success?" How many innocent Iraqi people died before this "success?" And how do you account for the literally billions of dollars that cannot be accounted for in the midst of this "success?" And who is going to pay the literally trillions of dollars in debt for this "success," especially when early, intelligent planning could have avoided all of that? Sounds like success to me.
NVMakz wouldn't know a "fact" if it bit him in .....
Turn off AM radio. Fox "news" is NOT "fair and balanced". Try thinking for YOURSELF for once.

I do not think the US is tearing apart on the Iraq war.
The Iraq peace movement is very lame compared to Vietnam peace movement and the pre-World War II peace movement.
Over 50% of population do not want a rush retreat from Iraq. The same population wished that we never invaded Iraq in the first place.
The American Civil War is a good example of a divided country. Over 600,000 Americans died in that war.
People like to be brazen in their remarks to get attention.
We are divided on Iraq but most Americans are more concern about their jobs then what is happening in Iraq.
"Perhaps we could talk about the utter incompetence of YEARS of warfare over there before people finally started taking advice and doing the surge?"
Is this THE SURGE which liberals said and lied about it would never work and what a waste of time it was? Now that it HAS worked, and the Iraqis are confident enough in their futures in talking about withdrawals = what part did the Reidist, Schumerist, Pelosi-ist and liberal freedom-attacking fascist wings of American Politics who fought it tooth and lies have to do with THAT?? What part of the successful surge belongs to THEM?? Answer me THAT!
"How many American soldiers had to die before this "success?" How many innocent Iraqi people died before this "success?"
A lot less would have died on both sides IF the "voted for it before (we) voted against it" liberal cowards HAD stood up to their comittment, instead of abandoning the troops and effort "for a few stats more"(mq). Giving aid, comfort (you know what THAT defines, don't you?) to America's enemies IS and HAS BEEN THE Liberal Socialist Democrat (LSD) Party's operations since before Watergate.
Also, it was the terrorist, not the U.S military, which targeted civilians FIRST.
"And how do you account for the literally billions of dollars that cannot be accounted for in the midst of this "success?"
I can't and am angered by this waste as well. Why doesn't and didn't the liberal-led Congress CUT FUNDING for the war as of 2006, when they had the power to - instead of leaving our fine Military in the field in the ongoing expenditure of those many billions == rank, disgusting political purpose and a frw seats more == that's why. After 2006, in which the Lib-Led Congress whined and pouted about "bringing the troops home" = NEVER DID WHAT WAS IN THEIR POWER TO DO - cut the funding. Reid, Pelosi etc were and are far too cowardly to put the Bill on bush's deask - and let him make the call. Democrats "left" the military over there in harm's way = voting for all the billions and billions sent over there - some of it to be wasted and grafted. Liberal congressionals have been POTUS Bush's huckleberry, even when they had the power to END THE WAR BY CUTTING THE FUNDING! They just kept bringing up, whining about = then APPROVING every war funding bill that came up.
"And who is going to pay the literally trillions of dollars in debt for this "success," especially when early, intelligent planning could have avoided all of that? "
IF America was of one mind on this, instead of the cowardly, America-enemy assisting liberal, America would have probably been a longer way toward the successes the believers in this liberation can now claim.
"Sounds like success to me."
Thanks for caving to the opinion I have had since this started. The successes and moving toward victory America is experiencing in this time is gratifying, but no thanks to the side you seem to espouse!
Sheesh, what's it like screaming through your keyboard?? I mean honestly the president said that the war would be quick and cheap. Those were lies, or very rosy shaded glasses. He additionally lied about why to go to Irag, was it weapons, 9/11, or now freedom??? If we can sew up the Iraq problem, great, but it was a mismanagement and a misspending of our resources. "Better" dictators to topple would have been N. Korea, Sudan, and the others who are actually in the middle of genocide. This was a scheme about oil and that is it.
And fyi the Left is not defeatist, the left is not about suppporting the terrorists. We wanted a reasoned discussion of this before running off to war without allies or the proper backing. Instead we basically lone gunned it over there.
Ps
Just because something is popular doesn't make it better or right. For instance the most popular movies in hotels are often the pornos, but you don't see people lionizing how great and better these movies are. Get used to the idea of a loyal opposition. People like you who scream about how disloyal the left is are worse for democracy because all you want to do is silence view points and make everyone bow to the same opinion. There were two places I remember that happening. One was under Hitler and the NSDAP and the other was under Joe Stalin's USSR. Which one of those states MAK do you want to be in to have total conformity to the administration's opinions.
(Removed by the site staff)
The point of this forum is to discuss things in a level-headed way. Again screaming through your keyboard, using less than admirable language and using a massive amount of name calling is a great way to back up your opinion Mak. Next time clean up your language, and try and not sound quite so hysterical.
"NVMakz" you have to be one of the most laughable sheep I've seen in quite some time.
What you haven't the capacity to realize is that it's SHEEP like YOU who are "tearing this country apart". It's SHEEP like YOU who haven't the ability (nor, apparently, the desire) to think for yourselves.
On the plus side, your numbers have dwindled down to even more insignificance than you were at the so-called "height" of your "popularity".
You aren't worthy of anything more than a snarky comment here and there. You are a chew-toy and you are a boring one at that. Have a nice day.
PatriciaLV:
Still not making any points?
The Iraq War, despite the lead-helmet liberals' assistance to America's enemies, is now being WON on the ground. Slogging through you and yours' obfuscations, The Bush Administration and Gen Petraeus's surge is making life and politics MUCH better and safer for the Nation of Iraq.
Bush's popularity ratings have hovered around 30-32% - with Rasmussen and Gallop over-weighting the Democrat/liberal %s in their polls all along. Still, not that good.
The liberal-led Congress has slid to 8-9% recently. MUCH worse.
Live with it!
You, have a nice day!
One last comment to the resident sheep ...
When YOU make a valid point, I will respond in kind.
TTFN.
oh really there is no link to oil in the Iraqi War. That is why Halliburton got a 3 billion dollar no contest contract to rebuild Iraq's oil fields. Who was a top exec at Halliburton before devoting his time to politic in 2000... oh yeah Dick Cheney. Of course they don't say we want war here for oil. It's called subtext. Or are you an idealogue who can only take at face value his side's arguments and then completely trash your opponents. Wake up Mak, both sides of the aisle are corrupt, but right now its the in charge republicans who are in the lead for mucking things up.
Oil prices would be at $6 a gallon if Iraq was not producing at all time levels (even before Hussein...that is the Iraq Hussien not our Hussein).
"goth":
"oh really there is no link to oil in the Iraqi War."
Are you trying to make a point??

"That is why Halliburton got a 3 billion dollar no contest contract to rebuild Iraq's oil fields. Who was a top exec at Halliburton before devoting his time to politic in 2000... oh yeah Dick Cheney."
Clinton used Halliburton and KBR a LOT sans bidding in his time (Balkans especially, etc), AT THE TIME Cheney was THE MAN there. There are VERY few corporations that can operate in war zones and provide those kind of support services - KBR / Halliburton is and was the best of them.
xxxxxx
Of course they don't say we want war here for oil.
Then WHY aren't American oil companies scooping up - without bid - all the oil contracts right now. IF it was "for oil", we like - own it all, don't we?
XXXXX
"It's called subtext."
It is called liberal political lies and propaganda whose sole purpose is a few seats more.
xxxxxxxx
"Or are you an ideologue who can only take at face value his side's arguments and then completely trash your opponents."
Thank you for admitting the liberals have been trashed here today - in two threads. I've had a lot of fun!
xxxxxxxx
"Wake up Mak, both sides of the aisle are corrupt, but right now its the in charge republicans who are in the lead for mucking things up."
It is the Republicans who have endured one of the most vicious, vitriolic and lying propaganda campaigns in modern times. It is the Republicans who are now WINNING this war in Iraq, as terrorists and Islamofascist invaders are being put to flight NOT only in Iraq, but worldwide as well. It is the Republicans who have persevered and provided the political breathing room so that outside, foreign oil and assorted other companies can come in and start to do business in Iraq again - WITH a free and fair Iraqi-based bidding program. It is the Republicans who have advanced liberation SO FAR that the al-Maliki Government can feel safe enough to discuss withdrawal options re: Coalition forces without as much fear of being slaughtered by terrorists and invaders who target the innocent FIRST.
Face facts and don't be a hater because the Democrat / liberal position is weakening and withering these days. Either find an argument, or stay on the porch!
All you've done is prove that you are a raving ideologue. You won't even admit when the republicans have done wrong, and all you do is make the same tired assertions sprinkled with ad hominem attacks on people. Really mature and great representation for right wing people. What do you think Nance?
"All you've done is prove that you are a raving ideologue. You won't even admit when the republicans have done wrong, and all you do is make the same tired assertions sprinkled with ad hominem attacks on people. Really mature and great representation for right wing people. What do you think Nance?"
And, argument loser, all you've done is prove that the liberal side of things - represented by most here, HAS NO ARGUMENT when confronted with a strong-willed and patriotic Republican.
Look at the thread here? A LOT of whining and flopping around by the liberal = JUST TO SAY ANYTHING IN RESPONSE. A snip and a snipe in response to argument. Look, if it's still there, at the "Oilman" thread, where the rabid and frothing "the bs" gets his arse handed to him.
I guess that when given a chance to really MAKE A CASE, da lib starts whining about everything BUT the case they SAY they have - that the LTE initiates here.
The basis of the lead-helmet left these days IS the name-calling and the demonization which usually has nothing to do with the subject - like yours here. My namecalling and demonization IS ROOTED in the base subject!
Face facts = libs here today got stomped on the prima facie (on the face of it) case. The return fire my way is whining - as losers do!
Like I said, find an argument to make or stay on the porch. Don't waste my time whining!
You are the one who is whining as you scream about how liberals are ruining the country. Stop being so melodramatic. Additionally, try and learn how to debate issues. Last I checked a lot of your posts get pulled because you resort to name calling and low blows. This isn't whining, it's pointing out that you are a bully who thinks that the right is completely perfect.
As said before the right screwed up in setting up the war and how they made a case for it. You cannot state in good conscience that Bush didn't fudge facts to get the war. Where are the WMD's that were supposed to annihilate us. Where are the connections to Al Quaida (before we stirred up the hornet's nest)? I just thinks it's a correct and fair criticism of Bush to call him a liar when he said in his state of the union address that there were nukes in Iraq when he knew that there weren't. He lied. Specifically to Congress which is an impeachable offense. I'm not saying we need to prosecute it at this point, but he has done a lot wrong with the war. This is not treason to point this out. No one is above the rules, and just because they are a part of your party doesn't mean they are above reproach. The patriotic thing to do is to see when a law or ethic is being broken and to speak out about it.
"You are the one who is whining as you scream about how liberals are ruining the country. Stop being so melodramatic. Additionally, try and learn how to debate issues."
Blah, blah, blah. Keep digging!
"Last I checked a lot of your posts get pulled because you resort to name calling and low blows. This isn't whining, it's pointing out that you are a bully who thinks that the right is completely perfect."
The longer-term and more vitri-holic bully started it LONG AGO, I finished him off decisively - and we both were deleted yesterday. I received my message from board management and answered him back this morning.
"... You cannot state in good conscience that Bush didn't fudge facts to get the war."
The debate was 18 months long, the vote of Congress taken, and your side LOST! STILL, can't you celebrate the brighter day of freedom and security for the Iraqi people that MY side persevered through YOUR side's lies - and are accomplishing today??
"Where are the WMD's that were supposed to annihilate us."
Maybe you should ask those liberals of the 90s through the run-up to Iraq - since they began the narrative.

(..virtually everything Joseph Wilson has said about his trip to Niger, and the report that Iraq tried to buy uranium from Niger, is a lie.)

500+ TONS of "yellowcake" was recently removed from Iraq and bought by a Canadian power company. WHERE did that Y/C come from????
" Specifically to Congress which is an impeachable offense."
Was he under OATH? Nope. Clinton lied under oath, not Bush.
'I'm not saying we need to prosecute it at this point".
Who cares? You have nothing TO prosecute!
"but he has done a lot wrong with the war."
SO much of what he's accused of having "done wrong" are ongoing lies and political attacks by a loser liberal party.
"This is not treason to point this out."
Aiding and comforting America's enemies in a time of war / armed conflict with our best and bravest in harm's way - with lies and liberal propaganda - IS treason.
"No one is above the rules, and just because they are a part of your party doesn't mean they are above reproach".
Blah, blah, blah..
"The patriotic thing to do is to see when a law or ethic is being broken and to speak out about it."
You have a lot more material ethics to speak out about on the liberal side of it. Start there.
Your view of treason belies the fact that you are a totalitarian. Learn that there is something called the 1st Amendment, and people still practiced this during both World Wars, Korea, and Vietnam.
"Those who would trade their freedom for security deserve neither"
"Your view of treason belies the fact that you are a totalitarian."
Lol. Are you calling me names? Should I rat you out to the board management??
"Learn that there is something called the 1st Amendment, and people still practiced this during both World Wars, Korea, and Vietnam."
Loose lips sink ships. History shows that because of the liberals not supporting the troops ("BABY KILLERS") in Vietnam and undermining another Republican President -- millions upon millions of S/E Asians were slaughtered in the region (The killing fields), herded into "re-education camps", put to flight to avoid REAL totalitarianism (The boat people) and the ones who couldn't escape (the rest) had been subjected to horrors and death which were caused by liberal lies - as the region STILL has not recovered from. The Vietnam War, more than won on the battle field, was undermined "in American streets" and caused these horrors. Undermining Iraq would have produced the SAME RESULT in slaughter, oppression and horror in the whole Middle East IF It wasn't being WON right now by Bush and those (me) who support him in this.
"Those who would trade their freedom for security deserve neither"
Lies and propaganda - in direct opposition to the truth - undermine freedom, security and our very existence. Yet modern-day liberals will, when they are able, TAKE our freedom for the march of Socialism and Totalitarian government for America.
"Neither" is the Democrat's choice, for whom in the Communist mold no lie, no smear and no negative action is out-of-bounds in the march to install Socialism or worse; which has FAILED anywhere in the world it has been attempted.
As much of the world elects more conservative leaders and governments (France, Britain, Italy, Australia, Canada, Denmark, the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland and on and on) because their Socialist experiments are failing them big time == the Democrat Party wants America to go in the opposite direction and elect a political puppy uber-liberal Obama, who agrees that America IS the problem and Socialism IS the answer.
See how lonely Barry would be if elected:

From 1963, here are the Communist Goals For America - The blueprint for American capitulation and subjugation. Look through the list and see how many the Democrat Party has been efforting ever since.
And, thanks for not trying to refute MY points here. Not that you can, but I'll scoop up the "points" anyway.
1. We lost Vietnam on the battlefield.
2. Yes, Jane Fonda was wrong to cavort with the Viet Cong.
3. Even in war we have the ability to criticize the president. If you disagree, run over to China or North Korea where you have to agree with the leader. First Amendment is a right (almost) no matter what you say (except libel, yelling fire, death threats). Unless Bush can prove we are in a state of emergency requiring suspending basic liberties I will keep saying what I can say about him, and no one can arrest me for "treason". So put on your jackboots, and move back to Germany in the 30s because opposition and free thought are still legal here. God Bless America and her freedoms.
ps -Find a single modern, ie 20th century or newer, case of treason where someone just disagreed with the president. I dare you.
pps
What about all the conservatives who disagreed with Clinton when he went into Kosovo. Are all of them treasonous too. They include all of your favs. And that time it was legitimate to stop genocide that was ongoing.
1) Prove it!
"The following quote is from his memoirs currently found in the Vietnam War memorial in Hanoi:
"What we still don't understand is why you Americans stopped the bombing of Hanoi. You had us on the ropes.
If you had pressed us a little harder, just for another day or two, we were ready to surrender! It was the same at the battles of TET. You defeated us! We knew it, and we thought you knew it.
But we were elated to notice your media was definitely helping us. They were causing more disruption in America than we could in the battlefields. We were ready to surrender. You had won!"
xxxxxxxxxxxx
From the memoirs of General Võ Nguyên Giáp, who was the commander of the North Vietnamese army
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news...
2) Fonda, a traitor in any definition, was wrong to cavort and laugh while in a gun turret as American warplanes passed overhead.
3) Libel, slander, "yelling fire in a movie theater" (a Supreme Court Decision metaphor for creating panic, terror and fear where there is none), death threats etc are free-speech violations.
Your "jackboots" woof is irrelevant, as the active undermining of America not by truth, but by liberal lies, spin and active propaganda which assists America's enemies IS treason - conviction or not.
Aid and comfort to the enemy in armed conflict with Americans in harm's way IS treason. America's enemies KNOW who their friends are!
Since the times of John Adams, citizens have not been arrested for mere criticism of the President. Today's Democrat liberals have gone way above the pale since during Vietnam.
Clinton: Never was subjected to being dragged through the anti-American United Nations - he just hijacked NATO and went to war.
Ran an ineffective bombing campaign while on the ground - Milosovic and Raditic(sp, but just captured day before yesterday) and their ilk SLAUGHTERED TENS OF THOUSANDS ON THE GROUND = the mass graves etc.
It was only when Clinton (who the other side knew didn't want to sustain American casualties) HINTED of introducing American / NATO ground forces = Milosovic CAVED and everyone headed to Dayton to work it out.
God bless America and her freedoms - it gives liberals and their global anti-American friends / accomplices cover to = undermine-her-and-degrade-her "through the night with the light from above" (oops, that was a religious reference, another liberal issue of decades-worth of attack!!
Hussein decided against visiting wounded troops in Germany because the Army said that you can not bring reporters or a whole lot of your crowd.
Keep up the good job Hussein!!!!!!!

Polls throughout are tightening up. The uh, uh, electorate uh IS uh, uh, uh wising uh, up huh?, to uh, this ummmm, political big-ear puppy huh, uh, huh?, .
I wonder where you are your information from NVMakz. Karl Rove currently has Obama with 272 electoral votes, and Mccain with only 183. Also, the gap betweem Obama and Mccain is the larest its been in Rove's polling.
You can see the current polling on Rove's web-site http://www.rove.com/maps/McCain-Obama-07...
Barry loses 24, McCain loses only 5 and "Toss-up" gains 29 = and you say what you do?????
The air is leaking from the Barry "huh, uh, well, uh huh...." Obama balloon.
Here's the deal. Barry got a big lead over Hillary BEFORE all of Barry's past judgments were found out == then he barely staggered to the finish line for the nomination.
He has a lead - NO bounce as I said from his oversea campaign tour == but a leaking lead vs McCain - and as America finds out more about this political puppy fraud, America will not let him win.
He lost about 9% of his electoral estimate in the last nine days.
272 Obama (-24 from 7/16)
183 McCain (-5 from 7/16)
83 Toss-Up (+29 from 7/16)
Because of the major lying liberal media in my lifetime, Dems have been handed free campaign buzz and free political commercial-like coverage - while the (R) gets bad-mouthed and disrespected == an initial overall lead over the (R).
There have been only TWO Democrat Presidents in the last 30+ years. Coincidence?? Not after the electorate gets to know the liberal better - and cuts through the lying, sycophant media coverage which props them up - for a while!
Barry's gonna go DOWN!! Jimmy C was the worst POTUS in my lifetime, FAR worse than what libs say about Bush - but at least he was Governor of a State FIRST!
"Campaign manager David Plouffe says the smooth foreign swing by Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) will help win votes in the long run but won’t produce an immediate surge in polls.
“We wouldn’t expect any sort of, I guess the term people use is ‘bounce,’” Plouffe said by phone from campaign headquarters in Chicago.
The manager, noting that he pays less attention to national polls than polls in key states, said his campaign views the general-election as “five months in totality.”
“We view everything as kind of a package – there’s not going to be any one thing that is decisive,” he said. “It was an important week, but it was just one week in this campaign. Come November 4th, this week will be important to voters, but every week will be.”
Nevertheless, Plouffe may be pleasantly surprised. A Gallup daily tracking poll releasd Saturday found that Obama had stretched his lead over McCain among national registered voters to seven points — 48 percent to 41 percent — tying his widest previous lead, notched in early June.
Gallup.com says in an analysis: "Obama's particularly large leads over McCain in Friday and Saturday's tracking suggest that the massive publicity surrounding Obama's speech at the Victory Tower in Berlin on Friday — the only major public event of the trip — and coverage of Obama's meetings with the heads of state in France and Germany may have tilted U.S. voter preferences more in his favor." "
That is from politico.com today. The gallup daily tracking poll seems to disprove your thesis.
"He has a lead - NO bounce as I said from his oversea campaign tour == but a leaking lead vs McCain - and as America finds out more about this political puppy fraud, America will not let him win."
Wrong.

Not only did Obama get a bump from his "flawless*" overseas tour, we've watched the electorate trend in his favor.

Some might say that "Barry's gonna go DOWN!!" is spiking the ball on the 5 yard line. Now where have I heard that from...

Gallop polls "registered voters", while Rasmussen polls here "likely" voters, and there:
1) IS NO bounce for Obama, or
2) The / Any bounce has come and gone.
You choose!
I'd rather hear from "likely voters" - than from a poll in which a big %% might not vote at all - the "registered" voter. Who cares the opinion of one who will wind up not voting at all? They're clogged with them over at Gallop.
Gotta get your head out of "Gallop"! Weren't they responsible for the rotten, lying exit polls in 2004 - the ones whose information caused the bad news that Kerry was a shoo-in? Didn't they hire those companies to lie in 2000??
Novak is reporting TODAY that lib-Dems are getting nervous because Barry hasn't closed yet.
