Early voting period begins Saturday for Aug. 12 primary

If you want to vote early for next month's primary election, you can do so starting Saturday at one of the designated early polling places throughout Clark County.

Voters may cast their ballots anytime from Saturday through Aug. 8 at one of the 22 early voting sites that will be open through the county, or they can wait and vote at their designated polling place on the Aug. 12 Primary Election Day.

Early voting polling places include some that will be open all 14 days of the early voting period, plus others that will be open from one to seven days during the period.

Specific locations can be found at www.accessclarkcounty.com/elections.

Harvard L. Lomax, Clark County registrar of voters, said about half of the voters who cast ballots in the primary will do so during the two-week early voting period.

The county has offered early voting since 1996. Since 2000, more people have voted before regular election day than on election day.

If you're unsure if you are registered to vote in Clark County, you can check your registration status by entering your name and birth date in the "Voter Information Lookup" box on the front of the Election Department Web site. While it is too late to register for the primary election, you can still register to vote in the Nov. 4 general election.
