Man dies in scooter accident

Tue, Jul 22, 2008 (5:23 p.m.)

A 2005 Roketa 49cc scooter crashed into a light pole today in the northwest valley and the sole occupant, a 51-year-old Las Vegas man, died at a local hospital, Metro Police said.

The Clark County coroner's office said the man's next of kin had not been notified.

Police said the scooter was northbound at 1:29 p.m. on North Jones Boulevard near West Bromley Avenue in the right paved shoulder. Witnesses said the scooter was passing slower traffic when the rider struck the east curb of Jones and slid into a light pole, police said.

The rider was taken to University Medical Center trauma unit with critical injuries and died shortly after arriving at the hospital, police said.

Metro's traffic division is still investigating the crash. This is the 67th traffic-related death investigated by Metro Police this year.

Discussion: 2 comments so far…

  1. The way these crazy Las Vegans drive it's much too dangerous for anyone to be on the road with anything other than a tank.

  2. While I do not disagree that Vegas drivers are crazy, your comment does not really hold any relevance to this article. The person on the scooter ran into a curb, causing them to strike a light pole. Where in the story was there mention of any other drivers being the cause???
