LETTER TO THE EDITOR:
Bipartisan energy solutions vital
Sun, Jul 6, 2008 (2:01 a.m.)
I want to compliment Mr. Ron Levesque for his Thursday letter to the editor, headlined “Bipartisan, multipronged solution needed.”
It could be one of the most thoughtful, comprehensive statements relative to the energy situation in this country that I have read in a long time. Mr. Levesque should forward a copy of his letter to every member of Congress.
If our current representatives don’t address the issue now we need to elect individuals who will. Congress finally needs to act for the benefit of the citizens of the USA and not for themselves.
There is no one solution to our problem. A long-term, bipartisan strategic approach to energy as outlined by Mr. Levesque is what this country needs to attain energy independence. And we need to start it now.

According to Mr Levesque, the energy problem has been an ongoing problem for over 30 years, and still nothing has been done. The way the USAs administration works, it will most likely take another 30 years for them to get their fingers out and do something. At the end of the 1890s, yes 1890s, scientists were then warning of the possible danger due to the release of carbonic acid into the atmosphere thru burning fossil fuels, and it was not until the 1980s that another scientist, Hansen brought this problem to the forefront again, and STILL no progress has been made. What are the politicians waiting for, hoping the problem will go away all by itself???
Gas prices are killing Las Vegas and jobs in Las Vegas.
Leaders in Las Vegas need to put 100% of their focus on this issue.
Obama's plan will take 30 years to implement. We can not wait that long.
This crazy absolute "NO NEW DRILLING" stand has been killing us for years. It has to stop or it will be our jobs that will get kill.
Im sorry for you if you think that the gas prices are killing Vegas and the jobs. Your gas is only just above $4 a gallon, whereas here in EU most countries are around $8 to $10 a gallon. There are complaints here as well, but I wouldnt say its killing us or our jobs. Like you say the SWITCH as Obama has suggested WILL take a couple of decades, and the longer you wait the worse it will get. The USA should have been thinking about this 30-40 yrs ago, we did, and now we are free from fossil fuels for energy production.
