Yes, high prices could drive trade show away

Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2008 | 2 a.m.

In response to Richard N. Velotta’s Saturday story “Hey, Vegas: Don’t gouge us”:

It is indeed possible that the organizers of the Consumer Electronics Show will move the largest convention held here to a location less costly to exhibitors and attendees.

If enough exhibitors back out of reserving exhibit space because of attendees driven away by the increasing costs, we will soon see the tipping point reached.

Case in point: New York City’s Madison Square Garden is the former site of the largest U.S. electronics show. The show left New York in the 1970s when costs to exhibit and attend became outrageous.

We have the greatest convention site available anywhere accommodations, dining, entertainment, gaming and convenient air travel from nearly everywhere.
